A Little History on Charcoal Grilling: It is said that E.G. Kingsford was the father of American charcoal grilling. Kingsford was a relative of Henry Ford who saw that Ford’s Model T production lines were producing a large amount of wood scraps that were just being thrown out. He proposed to Ford a simple idea: set up a charcoal manufacturing facility next to the assembly line and sell the charcoal. Ford jumped on the idea and immediately implemented Kingsford’s idea. Another personality in the world of charcoal grilling is George Stephen who invented the Weber charcoal grill. Stephen worked for a metal fabrication shop which primarily built buoys. One day he had an epiphany: he took the lower half of a buoy, welded three steel legs onto it, and fabricated a shallower hemisphere for use as a lid. Within weeks he was selling the charcoal grills to his neighbors. Soon thereafter, he started the Weber-Stephen Products Co. and Weber charcoal grills became a tradition in American charcoal grilling.

Gas grills through the years have taken over much of the grilling market, but there’s not quite anything like the aroma and taste of food cooked on a charcoal grill.
